In our lab we deal with various questions of pluripotency induction and maintenance. Specifically, we investigate the process of cellular reprogramming, in which induced pluripotent stem cells are generated from somatic cells. We pointed out two chromatin regulators that play a role in this process, one is essential for reprogramming (Utx), and the other (Mbd3) is an obstacle, which upon its removal the reprogramming becomes dramatically faster and synchronized. In addition we investigate how pluripotency is maintained throughout development in mouse and human, specifically, we were able to maintain human stem cells in a "naive" ground state, which lets the cell survive better and contribute to cross-species chimera.
